The Election Commission announced on Thursday that it has rejected the caste certificate of the party nominee in the reserved Ramtek (SC) Lok Sabha constituency, Rashmi S. Barve
The issue of the validity of Barve’s caste certificate arose during the scrutiny of her nomination papers earlier this week. Poll authorities took up the matter on Thursday for further examination.
This development has cast doubt on the eligibility of Barve’s candidacy for the Ramtek (SC) parliamentary constituency, prompting her team to swiftly approach the Bombay High Court (Nagpur Bench) seeking urgent relief. However, Congress leaders in Mumbai and Nagpur refrained from commenting on the issue or revealing whether the party leadership would consider changing its candidate.
The MahaYuti coalition has put forward Raju Parwe, representing the ruling Shiv Sena, as a candidate to challenge Barve. However, the Bharatiya Janata Party, another ally, was also eager to contest for the same seat.
