The Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) has revealed concerning figures regarding outstanding payments within the Nagpur Circle, encompassing Nagpur and Wardha districts. A staggering Rs 70.54 crore remains unpaid by domestic, commercial, and industrial consumers. Urging prompt action, MSEDCL has called upon consumers to settle their arrears promptly to avoid disconnection.
Nagpur city tops the list with arrears totaling Rs 51.86 crore, followed by Nagpur Rural with Rs 11.54 crore, and Wardha Circle with Rs 7.34 crore outstanding. Despite repeated appeals, MSEDCL continues to face substantial losses due to non-payment of bills. As the financial year draws to a close, the company has intensified its efforts to collect dues.
Focused efforts are being directed towards recovering arrears from defaulters with bills exceeding Rs 5,000 in the Nagpur Circle. MSEDCL officials emphasize that failure to settle outstanding amounts will result in supply discontinuation. Additionally, stringent measures are being implemented to curb power theft, with dedicated teams assigned for this purpose. MSEDCL warns that action will be taken against both consumers and those aiding in power theft under sections of the Electricity Act 135/138 of the Electricity Act.
