The Airports Authority of India has decided to integrate its four flight information regions and create a joint information centre in Nagpur.
The Nagpur-based Indian Single Sky Harmonized ATM has been directed to prepare a detailed report and understand the technology available in India and the global market.
This decision by the authority will reduce aircraft fuel usage, enhance safety, and decrease carbon emissions. According to news published in a national news portal, India is the leading air navigation service provider in the Asia-Pacific region and controls 2.8 million square nautical miles of airspace.
India manages this airspace through four flight information regions (Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai), with a sub-FIR in Guwahati. India shares its flight information region (FIR) with 12 neighboring countries.
