Women’s rights activist and former assistant professor of Nagpur University, Shoma Sen, has been granted bail by the Supreme Court in the Bhima Koregaon case. She had been in jail since June 8, 2018.
The Supreme Court has allowed Sen’s release on bail under certain conditions, including that she shall not leave Maharashtra, surrender her passport, inform the National Investigation Agency (NIA) about her residence, inform an NIA officer about her mobile number, and ensure that the number remains active and charged.
Additionally, the GPS of her mobile must remain active, and her phone must be paired with that of an NIA officer so that her location can be ascertained. The Supreme Court has stated that if these conditions are breached, it would be open to prosecution to seek cancellation of bail.
