The temperature in the Vidarbha region has started soaring to its peak in April itself. On Friday Akola recorded the highest temperature of 44 degrees Celsius. Chandrapur is racing to beat Akola and has the highest temperature at 43.8. Washim and Wardha followed next with 43.0 and 42.5. Nagpur recorded the highest temperature of 41.4 degrees Celsius.
The extreme heat also resulted in a low turnout for polling on April 19. The voting in Nagpur, Bhandara-Gondia, Chandrapur, Gadchiroli-Chimur and Ramtek constituencies were held on Friday. Despite the efforts of local administration to motivate people for higher voting, the heat and three consecutive holidays resulted in low voting in these constituencies.
The temperatures in the region soared above 40 degrees Celsius on Friday.
