In a significant crackdown on illegal betting activities, the Yavatmal crime branch conducted a raid at a cricket betting den situated in Sonegaon’s Layout. The raid, which had been under investigation ended with the arrest of three bookies.
Based on information received, the police targeted flat number 301 at Parn Apartment under Sonegaon Police Station’s jurisdiction. On Thursday night, at approximately 7:15 PM, authorities conducted a raid, resulting in the arrest of three individuals: Harion Umesh Batra (31), Ravi Nandkishor Borele (38), and Ayyafaj Sheikh Kadir (23). All of them live in Yavatmal.
In the operation, the police confiscated evidence, such as LCD TVs, recorders, laptops, 23 mobile phones, two cars, and a shotgun. The total estimated value of the seized items is 35.61 lakhs.
The Sonegaon Police Station has officially charged all three suspects, who have then been brought before the local court to proceed with legal action.
Batra and Borele, known as cricket bookies, have been working with Ayyafaj and have been betting on cricket matches for a long time. They started their illegal activities around fifty days ago in a rented flat in Parn Layout. Sources suggest that the accused have a wide network in Yavatmal, serving many customers. They have been operating in Sonegaon for the last ten months, even conducting betting during the World Cup. Additionally, some bookies from Nagpur are suspected to be associated with them.
The investigation was carried out by a team led by Police Inspector Kiran Kabadi, assisted by API Mayur Chaurasiya, Rajesh Deshmukh, Ravi Ahir, Prashant Gabhane, Shrikant Uike, Anup Yadav, Praveen Rode, Ashish Wankhede, and Abhay.
