Mumbai Indians, a strong team with five IPL titles, are having a tough time in the 2024 season. Problems started before the season began when they chose Hardik Pandya as captain instead of the famous Rohit Sharma.
The decision stirred up anger among fans, leading to Hardik encountering boos at away games and facing online backlash. Many believed Rohit’s removal was unfair. This unrest impacted the team’s performance, resulting in MI being the first team to be eliminated from playoff contention.
More rumors started circulating when a video appeared on social media before MI’s game against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). In the video, Rohit was talking to KKR’s assistant coach, Abhishek Nayar, expressing his unhappiness about what was happening in the Mumbai Indians team lately. He didn’t mention the team directly, but his words were meaningful.
“Ek ek cheez change ho raha hai, sab unke upar hai, me dhyaan nahi deta,” (Everything is changing one by one, it depends on them, I don’t care about that)
“Jo bhi hai, mera ghar hai. Maine temple banaya hai (That’s my home, whatever it may be. It’s a temple that I’ve created).”
Fans also claimed to hear Rohit say, “Bhai mera kya, mera toh last hai” (Anyway, this is my last). These cryptic messages left fans wondering if he was hinting at a potential departure from MI.

With the playoffs no longer a possibility, Friday’s game against the top-ranked KKR doesn’t carry much importance for MI. Yet, uncertainties linger regarding the team’s leadership and Rohit’s future. The upcoming off-season is expected to be a time for MI to reflect and possibly make important changes as they strive to regain their former success.
