The Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) commenced the installation of smart prepaid electricity meters in the city on Thursday. At the electricity workers colony in Mankapur, approximately 12 meters were replaced with prepaid ones. These meters have been linked to a data center at Chhapru Nagar Square via a gateway for testing purposes.
MSEDCL has allocated a total of ₹14,547 crore to four agencies to replace 2.41 crore electricity meters across the entire state, including 52.06 lakh meters in Vidarbha. Monte Carlo has been assigned the responsibility of replacing meters in Nagpur, Wardha, Bhandara, Gondia, Chandrapur, and Gadchiroli.
The installation process was overseen by Regional Director Suhas Rangari, Chief Engineer Dilip Dodke, and Executive Engineer Pratiksha Shambharkar.
