Nagpur’s Commissioner of Police Dr Ravindra Singhal convened a meeting on Tuesday to work out methods to regularise road traffic in the city and also to plan safety measures.
Representatives of Nagpur Municipal Corporation, Zilla Parishad, National Highway Authority, PWD, World Bank-sponsored projects, Mahametro Rail Corporation, Health Department, Regional Transport Office, Information and Publicity Department etc attended the meeting.
Besides regularisation of traffic, issues related to the parking problem, and encroachment on roads were discussed.
Dr Singhal appealed to all the departments to work in coordination to generate awareness about following traffic rules by all vehicle riders, including minimal use of horns to avoid sound pollution. The directives of IRASTE about safety were also discussed. He also emphasized efforts to reduce accidents on roads, for which parking plans and removing hurdles should be the priority. Traffic signals management was also discussed.
Senior officers from all the departments participated in the discussion. Representatives of NGOs, Rotary Clubs, Jan Akrosh, Roadmark Foundation, Nagpur@2025 were also present.
