In an effort to boost attendance, cinemas across India will offer tickets for just Rs 99 on May 31st to celebrate Cinema Lovers Day. This initiative by the Multiplex Association of India (MAI) covers over 4,000 screens nationwide, including major chains like PVR, INOX, and Cinepolis.
The discount follows a sluggish first quarter for the industry, with Hindi and regional films failing to attract audiences. The limited release of Hollywood movies and the ongoing national elections have also contributed to the decline in ticket sales.
However, there’s a silver lining for cinemas on the horizon. With a robust lineup of movies slated for June and beyond, the industry is hopeful for a surge in foot traffic. This Friday, movie enthusiasts can take their pick from exciting new releases such as “Gangs of Godavari,” “Mr and Mrs Mahi,” “Chotta Bheem and the Curse of Damyaan,” and “Haikyuu the Dumpster Battle,” all at a discounted price.
