Shirdi Airport’s development has raised hopes for the launch of air services from Nagpur to Shirdi by year-end. Despite initial delays in infrastructural enhancements at the airport, flight numbers have unexpectedly decreased instead of rising.
However, assurances suggest that upon completion of essential work such as runway recarpeting, not only will flight numbers revert to previous levels but new services will also commence.
Key projects including the construction of a new terminal building and runway resurfacing are pending at Shirdi Airport. Delays in issuing the work order to the contractor during the code of conduct period have stalled progress. Pre-pandemic, Shirdi Airport hosted 18 flights, a figure now halved to 9. The Maharashtra Airport Development Company (MADC) is keen to accelerate development efforts.
