Many legislatures could not attend Legislature session
Life in Mumbai has come to a halt following very heavy rains since last night. In about six hours the financial capital of India received more than 300 mm of rain. The local trains, which is the lifeline of Mumbai, were running behind schedule. Many low-lying areas were under water compelling many to remain stranded to their respective homes on the first day of the new week. Many legislators could not reach the Vidhan Bhavan in time to attend the ongoing session of the state legislature.
Bombay Municipal Corporation and all other government educational institutions remained closed. Attendance in many workplaces also was poor during the first hours.
The Meteorological Department has issued a forecast of heavy to very heavy rains in 11 states.
NDRF teams have reached many districts and are in alert mode. Many tourists on Raigad Fort are stranded and are unable to return due to heavy rains.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has appealed to the people to cooperate with the government machinery. The emergency agencies is in alert mode. Pumping out water from the low-lying areas is in progress.
Train traffic was also affected. Vidarbha Express and Amravati-Kurla Express could not reach their destination. Some trains were stopped at the Ghatkopar suburb. Many passengers including MLA Amol Mitkari and minister Anil Patil walked on the railway track to come out of the train.
