A routine IndiGo flight from Mumbai turned into a nerve-wracking experience for passengers on Saturday morning after the aircraft aborted landing at Nagpur airport at the last moment due to low visibility, causing panic on board.
Flight 6E 5349, operating on the Mumbai–Nagpur route, was moments away from touching down at Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar International Airport when it suddenly accelerated and climbed back into the sky, leaving passengers stunned and anxious.
According to one passenger, the pilot later informed that the landing was called off due to poor visibility and a second attempt would be made after circling the airport for 15 minutes. The aircraft landed safely on the second approach, but the scare left many passengers visibly shaken. Some were seen praying while others sat silently, fearing the worst.
Airport officials confirmed that dense clouds and heavy rain in the region led to the temporary disruption of flight operations. Several flights in and out of Nagpur are facing delays due to weather-related challenges, and more interruptions are expected as intense monsoon activity continues across Maharashtra.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued rainfall alerts for multiple districts including Nagpur and Pune, warning of reduced visibility and waterlogging in low-lying areas.
This incident is one in a string of recent flight scares across the country. Earlier this week, two IndiGo flights – one bound for Goa from Delhi and another heading to Imphal – were forced to make emergency landings due to technical issues. The aviation sector is also under increased scrutiny following the tragic Air India crash in Ahmedabad last month, which claimed 260 lives.
As of now, IndiGo has not issued an official statement regarding the aborted landing in Nagpur. Passengers and aviation authorities alike are calling for stricter safety protocols amid frequent in-air emergencies.
