Providing significant relief to parents, students, and colleges, the Maharashtra State Common Entrance Test (CET) Cell has announced an additional CET for admissions to Bachelor of Computer Applications (BCA), Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA), MBA Integrated, and MCA Integrated programs. This additional CET is scheduled on August 4.
The earlier CET was conducted on May 29, 2024. The additional CET will be held on August 4, 2024, at various examination centers both within and outside Maharashtra State. Candidates will be notified via email/SMS to download their Admit Cards for the CET.
The inclusion of the Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) under the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) led to most colleges replacing this course. The lack of promotion for its Common Entrance Test resulted in a weak response from students. These factors collectively created chaos in the BBA admission process.
This year, undergraduate courses like Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) and Bachelor of Computer Applications (BCA) were brought under the ambit of the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE). As a result, these courses will now be regulated by AICTE, allowing engineering colleges to offer and admit students to these programs.
The Maharashtra CET Cell announced the inaugural Common Entrance Test (CET) for BBA admissions, drawing registrations from over 55,000 students. Of these, approximately 48,000 took the exam. Many students were informed late about the course’s inclusion under AICTE, leading to some missing the application deadline. Despite colleges shifting focus to other courses from BBA, the demand remains robust. The mismatch between CET applicants and available seats is evident. In Nagpur region, there are currently 19,000 BBA seats, reduced from an initial 22,000 due to course changes by some colleges. About 16,000 seats are still available, yet only a fraction—5,000 plus students—applied for the CET. Some institutions are awaiting clarity and have chosen not to register with the CET Cell for admissions.
