In the last 10 days, 11 people in Nagpur district have been bitten by snakes, leading local authorities to issue warnings for the monsoon season. Snake rescue services report a significant increase in snake bites since early July, with 10 cases requiring medical treatment in just 8 days.
Victims, aged between 17 and 55, encountered snakes in various locales across the district, including Umred, Wadi, Sonapar Dhapewada, Hingna, and others. Local snake rescue teams have reported increased call volumes, encountering venomous species like cobras, vipers, and rat snakes in the area.
Residents are urged to take preventive measures against snake bites, including:
- Contacting snake rescue services rather than attempting to handle snakes themselves
- Ensuring adequate lighting in areas where snakes might be present
- Avoiding oral ingestion of any substance to counteract snake venom
- Seeking immediate medical attention at government hospitals if bitten
