Late Monday night, the construction of a new road within the campus of Visvesvaraya National Institute of Technology (VNIT) reached completion, according to Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Traffic Shashikant Satav. The road, whose construction included the demolition of a compound wall and late-night leveling work, is scheduled to open for vehicular traffic starting Tuesday morning, pending final readiness assessments.
DCP Traffic Satav has outlined designated hours for vehicular traffic from 9:30 am to 11:30 am and again from 5 pm to 7 pm. This schedule will remain in effect until August 15, as per an official notification issued by the DCP.
The initiative began following VNIT management’s approval to temporarily open a 1.2 km stretch exclusively for two-wheelers within the campus. The operationalization of this route required nearly three days to complete.
During construction, a segment of VNIT’s compound wall opposite the Indian Oil Petrol Pump was demolished to facilitate entry for vehicles. The stretch from this point to Gate No. 3 will be reserved solely for two-wheelers, with access prohibited for four-wheelers.
