In a glaring oversight by the Nagpur Municipal Corporation’s (NMC) health department, garbage vehicles continue to transport waste to dumping yards without proper tarpaulin covers, leading to littering on city roads and significant public inconvenience.
Despite crores of rupees allocated to cleanliness campaigns aimed at making the city filth-free, the absence of tarpaulin covers on these vehicles has exacerbated the problem. The stench emanating from the uncovered garbage trucks poses health hazards and disrupts daily life for residents and passersby alike.
Atul Kotecha, the State Congress Committee general secretary, has strongly condemned this negligence, highlighting the municipal corporation’s failure to enforce regulations requiring garbage trucks to be covered during transportation. He brought the issue to the attention of Dr. Abhijit Chaudhary, the municipal commissioner, emphasizing the urgent need for corrective action.
Kotecha warned of potential protests if immediate steps are not taken to address the issue, asserting that public health cannot be compromised. He pointed out that during the rainy season, the situation worsens as wet garbage intensifies the foul odors.
Despite awareness of the problem, the NMC has yet to take punitive action against violators, prompting growing frustration among citizens over the continued littering caused by uncovered vehicles.
The community awaits a swift response from municipal authorities to rectify this ongoing public health concern.
