A negligent attitude of the Public Works Department, which constructed important hospitals in Nagpur was apparent looking at the Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), Indira Gandhi Government Medical College and Hospital (IGGMCS), Daga Hospital and All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS). Heavy rains since Friday night gushed through the wards on the ground floors.
The patients were on the beds and water below them in several wards of these hospitals. The sanitation workers were working hard to remove water from the wards and the doctors were treating the patients making way through the water in these wards.
The Surgery ward, Ophthalmology ward, and Orthopaedic ward besides the casualty were at GMCH inundated.
GMCH Dean Dr Raj Gajbhiye and Medical Superintendent Dr Avinash Gawande were working hard to ensure the smooth functioning of Asia’s biggest health facility.
Pregnant women had to carefully manage their way to the doctors at Daga Maternity Hospital. The Sonography Department was closed due to water logging, a media house has reported.
Registration at the OPD of AIIMS had to be stopped for some time due to water logging. A similar situation was observed at IGGMCH OPD.
The ramp connecting GMCH and the Trauma Centre building is under construction. Chocking at the drain water outlet resulted in water logging in several wards, according to sources at GMCH.
