Nagpur Customs, with the assistance of Pune Customs (Preventive), intercepted a wildlife smuggling racket involving six persons and recovered a tiger skin (Panthera tigris) from Jalgaon.
The operation was carried out under the guidance and supervision of Shri Sanjay Kumar, Commissioner of Customs, and Shri Peeyoush Bhati, Additional Commissioner of Customs. The detection was made based on specific intelligence by the team of the Special Investigation and Intelligence Branch (SIIB).
The six persons involved in the smuggling were booked under the Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972 and the case was handed over to the authorities of Maharashtra Forest Department DCF, Jalgaon along with Tiger skin and the six accused for further action.
