The district administration is going to study Surat pattern to solve the traffic problem of Nagpur city. The district administration including the traffic department will soon visit Surat and study how it can be used in Nagpur city.
Union Minister Nitin Gadkari took a meeting on Sunday to review the accidents occurring in the district and the measures being taken for it. District Collector Dr Bipin Itnkar, Police Commissioner Dr Ravindra Singhal, Municipal Commissioner Dr Abhijeet Chaudhari and a large number of officials were present in this meeting. In the meeting, Gadkari expressed satisfaction over the work started to identify the black spots in the rural part including the city and to fix them. He also gave instructions to take strict action against encroachment on the roads.
While Talking to Reporters, Gadkari said, “Driving on the wrong side and not following the rules has become a habit for the public. Till the fear of law and the mentality of the people does not change, the objective of road safety cannot be achieved. We are taking big measures to improve the traffic system of the city.” Gadkari Said.
He further said, “Surat is a city where the traffic system is managed by the NGOs present there. A team of the administration will go there to study the pattern. After this, it will be implemented area by area with the help of the general public. The Union Minister further said, “Unless the government gets the cooperation of the general public, it cannot be completed.” Gadkari Said.
Gadkari said, “On an average 800 to 1000 people died in acidents every year in Nagpur. Most of the deaths are between 18 and 34 years of age. Last time we had identified black spots in the city and the district. We have started the work of fixing them. After completing this work, we will be able to reduce the number of deaths by half. Along with this, we have decided to make crossing marks in front of schools in the dangerous zones. Along with this, wherever there is a need for foot over bridges at the crossings in the middle of the road, NHAI, PWD will build them there. So that people can also get convenience.” Gadkari said.
