The Governor of Maharashtra and Chancellor of the universities in the state will be the chief guest for the Foundation Day of the Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University, at Dr Vasantrao Deshpande Hall, Civil Lines at 6 pm on August 4. The event also marks the concluding function of the University’s centenary year celebrations. Padmavibhushan Dr Raghunath Mashelkar, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, and Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis will be the guests of honour. Officiating VC Dr Prashant Bokare and other officers will remain present.
Various awards announced by the University will be given away during the programme. The University started with six affiliated colleges and 917 students under four faculties and has grown to cater to the needs of over 4 lakh students from over 500 affiliated colleges. The university also has 40 departments.
AWARDS: The University announced various awards. Dr Charudatta Digambarrao Mayee, Nagpur will be honoured with the ‘Jeevan Sadhana’ Award. Shikshan Prasarak Mandal, Katol has been selected for the Ideal Education Society award. The Superintendent with the University’s Examination Section Sangita Atram (Ideal Officer), Sanjay Ramraoji Bhoyar (Ideal employee Class-III) and Mangesh Namdevrao Utane (Ieal employees Class-IV) have been selected or Balraj Aher Memorial Gold Medals. . The other award winners are Dilip Pandurang Langde from the Home Science Department and Durgeshsingh Kewalsingh Bais from the Registrar’s Office. From affiliated colleges, Sandip Manohar Kothar from the MSS Institute of Social Work and Yuvraj Sajjan Ghate from Hislop College were selected as ideal non-teaching employees from affiliated colleges.

EX-STUDENTS’ MEET: Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University has organised a get-together of its former students at Dr Vasantrao Deshpande Hall, Civil Lines at 10.30 am on August 3. Retired Supreme Court judge Vikas Sirpurkar, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, Maharashtra’s Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, ex-MP Padmashri Dr Vikas Mahatme, Padmashri Dr Chandrashekhar Meshram will be the guests. RTMNU VC Dr Prashant Bokare will be in the chair.
Prominent ex-students who earned names at regional, state, national and international levels will remain present. A discussion on the development of the university, its Knowledge Resource Centre with the help of ex-students will be held. Prominent 100 ex-students will be felicitated on the occasion. The event is a part of the centenary celebrations of the University.
FORMER EMPLOYEES: A gathering of former teachers and non-teaching employees will be held at Dr Vasantrao Deshpande Hall, at 6 pm on August 2.
