Doctors and medical students staged a protest in front of the OPD at Government Medical College & Hospital Nagpur (GMCH).
FAIMA (Federation of All India Medical Association) calls for a nationwide shutdown of OPD services from today, August 13, as a protest against the sexual assault and murder of a woman post-graduate trainee (PGT) doctor at Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, on August 9.
Dr Diksha Bajaj says, “…”Doctors spend more time in hospitals than at home. This is our second home. If we are not safe here, where will we be safe? We demand our safety and nothing else. We are serving the patients, but our safety is important too. If we are not safe, how can we do our work? We want justice and will call off our strike once we get justice.”
Healthcare Services were disrupted in the emergency department as well.
Hundreds of patients who reached the hospitals from far-off places of Vidarbha had to go back without meeting doctors for consultation or getting medical reports.
