Nagpur: On August 23, 2024, an auto-rickshaw driver in Gittikhadan was booked for reckless driving while transporting school children. The driver, Pravin Shyamrao Ghewadonde, 40, was caught driving at high speed and on the wrong side of the road, endangering the lives of the children and other road users.
The incident was brought to the attention of the Commissioner of Police, Dr Ravinder Singal who directed immediate action. The Traffic Branch has registered a case against the driver and initiated the process to suspend his license.
In response to the growing number of accidents involving school transportation vehicles, the police have issued a strict warning to all school vehicle drivers, urging them to follow traffic rules and prioritize safety. The police have also announced plans for intensified monitoring and enforcement to prevent such incidents in the future. Parents are advised to be vigilant and ensure that those transporting their children adhere to safe driving practices.
