In a chilling incident that unfolded in Nagpur in the early hours of August 24, 2024, a 26-year-old man was abducted and brutally assaulted by a gang of seven individuals, including members of the Yuva Sena associated with the Shiv Sena (Uddhav Thackeray faction). The incident occurred between 1:30 AM and 4:00 AM near Plot No. 107, Adivasi Nagar, adjacent to Aamkar Lawn, within the jurisdiction of Wathoda Police Station.
The victim, identified as Saurabh Sanjay Rannanavare, was standing outside his house when the assailants arrived in a four-wheeler and motorcycles. The attackers have been identified as Pritam Kapse (33), a resident of Bahadura, Nagpur; Shubham alias Chaddha Kailas Singh Chavan (31) from Plot No. 112, Shivsundar Nagar, Dighori, Nagpur; Sheikh Imran Shadab Sheikh Akram (28) from Plot No. 52, Jaihind Nagar, Bahadura, Nagpur; Shashidhar Tiwari (32) from Radheshwar Nagar, Dighori, Nagpur; Amir Khan (25); Nilesh Mun (30); and Pawan Ghuskar (30). Pritam and Shashidhar are office bearer of Yuva Sena.
The gang forcibly placed Rannanavare in the trunk of their vehicle and transported him to a stone quarry near Kuhi Phata, where they subjected him to a horrific assault. The attackers verbally abused him, and he was beaten with fists, an iron rod, and a firearm. In a terrifying act, one of the attackers, Pritam Kapse, pressed a pistol to Rannanavare’s temple and threatened to kill him. The victim also suffered injuries to his left eye and forehead after being stabbed with a knife.
Despite his severe injuries, Rannanavare managed to escape and sought help at Wathoda Police Station, where he reported the incident. He was subsequently taken to a medical facility for treatment.
Based on Rannanavare’s complaint, the Wathoda Police Station has registered a case under various sections of the BNS, including 109, 140(1), 189(2), 191(2), 191(3), and 190, along with sections 3/25 of the Arms Act. Two of the accused, Shubham Chavan and Sheikh Imran, have been apprehended, while the search for the remaining suspects continues. The investigation is ongoing.
