A 59-year-old resident of Vishwakarma Nagar, Ajni, Nagpur, was defrauded of Rs 66,50,218 in a sophisticated stock market scam that took place over a period of more than a month. The victim, Ravindra Dashrath Mohaje, was targeted by scammers operating under the guise of stock market advisors.
Between July 10, 2024, and August 20, 2024, Mohaje received messages on WhatsApp from two individuals, identified as Rohan Joshi and Ayesha Jha, who claimed to represent organizations named “SBI Service Group” and “VIP Task Force.” Through these messages, the scammers gained Mohaje’s trust and persuaded him to invest in various stocks and shares.
The accused manipulated Mohaje into buying and selling shares from different companies, promising lucrative returns. However, instead of providing any profits, the scammers transferred a total of ₹66,50,218 from Mohaje’s account to various other accounts and then failed to return the money, leading to a significant financial loss for the victim.
Following a complaint lodged by Mohaje, the Ajni Police registered a case against the accused under Sections 316(2), 318(4), and 111(2)(b) of the BNS, along with Section 66(D) of the Information Technology Act.
