A police constable was injured after a Great Dane dog was unleashed on him while attempting to apprehend a molestation suspect in Itwari Sarafa Market. The incident occurred between 10:00 p.m. and 10:30 p.m. on August 27, 2024, when Constable Sanjay Ramlal Shahu, on night duty, was tasked with bringing in Ankush alias Guddu Pintu Bagdi, 37, for allegedly harassing a young girl.
Upon arrival at Ankush’s residence, the suspect emerged with his Great Dane and began verbally assaulting the officer. When Constable Shahu tried to take Ankush into custody, the suspect ordered the dog to attack, resulting in a severe bite to the constable’s left thumb.
Ankush’s father, Pintu Nandlalji Bagdi, 73, also interfered with the arrest by abusing and threatening the officers. The police managed to fend off the dog with batons, causing it to flee. Constable Shahu was promptly taken to Mayo Hospital for medical treatment.
Tehsil Police Station has registered a case under Sections 132, 291, 296, 351, and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS). Both Ankush and his father have been arrested, and further investigation is underway.
