A two-day Defence Driving training programme was inaugurated by Municipal Commissioner Dr Abhijit Chaudhari on Thursday. The training workshop has been organised by NMC and social organisation Jan Akrosh at the Dharampeth Children’s Traffic Park. Managing Director of Mahametro Shrawan Hardikar, ex-MP Padmashri Dr Vikas Mahatme, President of Jan Akrosh Dr Anil Laddhad, Secretary Ravindra Kaskhedikar were present.
Dr Chaudhari spoke about the importance of traffic management. The city bus drivers transport thousands of passengers every day. They have a greater responsibility towards the people. Following the rules is necessary to prevent accidents. The training will help understand the rules’ intricacies and recent changes made. NMC plans to inform school children about the traffic rules. He congratulated Jan Akrosh for undertaking the important task of generating awareness.
Hardikar also spoke on the importance of the training on the subject. The bus driver is a part of the administration. He represents entire administration and occupies the seat of the driver. The driver should work with responsibility, he added.
Kaskhedikar made introductory remarks. More than 1,000 city bus drivers will be trained during the programme. Dr Laddhad proposed a vote of thanks.
Dr Mahatme assured free eye check-ups for bus drivers.
