In recent times, car buyers have shown a heightened interest in registration numbers, often spending substantial sums to acquire fancy plates. However, attention has now shifted to the Bharat Series (BH) number plates, which were introduced to simplify vehicle registration across states.
Previously, vehicle owners aimed to obtain ornate number plates, but now the focus has turned towards the BH series. This initiative is tailored for individuals who frequently travel for work across different states. Launched on August 28, 2021, as part of the “One Nation – One Number Plate” policy by the Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, the BH series eliminates the need for re-registering vehicles when relocating to a new state.
The BH number plates feature a format where the initial digits represent the registration year, such as 21, 22, or 23, and the plate is marked with ‘BH’ instead of a state code. This uniformity ensures that vehicles with BH plates are not subject to re-registration or scrutiny at police checkpoints across India. The BH series offers a cost-effective solution by saving on re-registration fees and ensuring seamless mobility nationwide.
