The Maharashtra State Government’s efforts to register forts built by Chhatrapati Shuivaji Maharaj as the World Heritage, appears to be bearing fruits. A team of United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) visited Raigad Fort to inspect the fort. The UNESCO team was accompanied by officials from the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI), Maharashtra’s Archaeology Department, Forest Department and local administration.
Besides inspecting the historical points and inspecting signs as historical evidence, the team also held a discussion with the local people and tourists. Information about the environment, steps to protect it, flora and fauna, present status of the heritage site, participation of local people in protecting the site was also collected.
