MSEDCL has launched an amnesty scheme for customers with permanently disconnected electricity connections. In Vidarbha, 11,919 customers have expressed interest in the scheme, with 10,008 of them successfully availing the benefits.
MSEDCL introduced the amnesty scheme on September 1, and it will remain available till November 30. So far, customers in Vidarbha have paid approximately Rs.10.90 crore under the scheme. The highest participation has been from the Nagpur zone, with 2,439 customers. Additionally, 1,525 customers from Buldhana, 1,084 from Gadchiroli, 600 from Akola, 571 from Amravati, 564 from Gondia, 534 from Bhandara, 522 from Chandrapur, 506 from Yavatmal, 473 from Washim, and 385 from Wardha have benefited from the scheme.
In Nagpur district, across both city and rural divisions, 1,760 customers have cleared their dues under the Abhay Yojana by making lump-sum payments. Additionally, 289 customers opted to settle their remaining dues in six installments after paying 30% upfront.
Around 47.30% of the total amount collected under the scheme in Vidarbha has come from the Nagpur division alone. Out of those benefiting from the scheme, 6,022 customers have requested reconnection, while 2,376 have sought the restoration of their old connections. All these customers are now integrated into Mahavitaran’s billing system. However, Mahavitaran suspects that many of them were using electricity illegally before availing of the scheme.
