A 28-year-old man allegedly caused a commotion and tried to assault police officers after being caught drinking alcohol inside a parked car in the Dhantoli area on Tuesday night. The incident has sparked concern over growing public indiscipline and disrespect toward law enforcement.
As per Dhantoli Police, the accused, identified as Sudhanshu Kishore Thakre, a resident of Prince Complex, Chhatrapati Chowk, was found consuming liquor inside a vehicle along with another man and a woman. The incident took place around 8:30 pm, opposite Kalpavruksh Hospital, near Vijay Fish Shop.
When Beat Marshal Praveen Meshram approached the group and questioned them for consuming alcohol in public, Thakre allegedly turned violent. He is said to have hurled abuses, pushed the officer, and even struck him on the hand during the confrontation. Despite multiple warnings, Thakre continued to behave aggressively and refused to cooperate.
He was eventually detained and taken to Dhantoli Police Station, where his disruptive behaviour reportedly continued, hampering police work. A medical examination later confirmed that he was heavily intoxicated at the time of the incident.
A case has been registered against Thakre under Sections 132 (obstructing a public servant), 221 (resisting lawful apprehension), 355 (assault on a public servant), and 352 (use of criminal force) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. He has also been booked under Section 85(1) of the Maharashtra Prohibition Act. Thakre was formally arrested at 4 am on July 9.
Senior Police Inspector Anamika Mirzapure confirmed the incident and stated that strict action will be taken against anyone who obstructs or assaults public servants performing their duty.
