Ahead of the Maharashtra Legislative Elections scheduled for November 20, Nagpur Police launched a swift operation targeting illegal firearms in the city. The crackdown, conducted over a span of several hours between Thursday and Friday, resulted in the arrest of seven individuals and the seizure of five firearms, along with ammunition and vehicles worth over ₹9 lakh.
The first case was reported in the Dhantoli area, where Crime Branch Unit 2, acting on a tip-off, arrested Milan Yashwant Suryavanshi (25) at his residence in Mohan Nagar, Khalsa Line. Officers recovered a country-made pistol with a magazine worth ₹50,000 during the raid. The operation was led by PI Shubhangi Deshmukh, PSI Gajanan Chambhare, and their team.
In another operation, Crime Branch Unit 4 apprehended Rishikesh Surendra Wankhede (21) near a dermatology clinic in TV Ward, Imamwada. The team seized a country-made pistol worth ₹50,000, which Wankhede admitted belonged to wanted accused Anshul Karemor (23). The raid was conducted by PI Kamalakar Gaddime, PSI Vaibhav Barange, and their team.
Unit 5 arrested Rahul alias Badal Ghardade (37) near Tulsi Nagar by the railway tracks, under the jurisdiction of Wathoda Police Station. Officers seized a firearm, a live cartridge, a car, and other items valued at ₹6.76 lakh. In Pardi, the same unit arrested Nikhil alias Kali Vahane (22) and confiscated a Spanish-made firearm worth ₹1 lakh. During interrogation, Vahane disclosed that the weapon belonged to wanted accused Rahul Ghardade. Both operations were executed by PI Rahul Shire, PSI Rahul Rote, and their team.
Under the jurisdiction of Lakadganj Police, Crime Branch Unit 3 detained Faizan Samiyulla Khan (28) near Itwari railway station. Officers seized a country-made pistol and a motorcycle, with a combined value of ₹1.1 lakh. The firearm was allegedly linked to wanted accused Sheikh Wasim alias Chirya. The raid was led by PI Mukund Thakre, PSI Madhukar Kathoke, and their team.
These coordinated operations were carried out under the guidance of Ravindra Kumar Singhal, Commissioner of Police, Nisar Tamboli, Joint Commissioner of Police, Sanjay Patil, Additional CP (Crime), Rahul Maknikar, DCP (Detection), and Abhijit Patil, ACP (Crime).
