Sitabuldi police have arrested a man involved in the theft of decorative lights installed on VIP routes in Nagpur for the G-20 summit. Over the past year, the accused stole 32 light bollards, valued at ₹1,000 each, amounting to a total theft of ₹32,000.
The accused, identified as Rajesh Gyaniram Bohare (32), a resident of Ward No. 2, Navargaon Kala, Gondia, was apprehended on November 22, 2024, during a police patrol. Officers stopped him while he was carrying a suspicious white sack on his bicycle. A search revealed four stolen light bollards, which were part of the decorations installed by the Nagpur Municipal Corporation along the GPO Chowk to Alankar Talkies Chowk stretch.
During questioning, Bohare confessed to stealing the lights over the past year and selling them to scrap dealers. The theft was initially reported by Nitin Kashinath Rakhunde (51), a resident of Hanuman Galli, Sitabuldi. A case was registered under Section 379 of the Indian Penal Code.
Police recovered additional stolen items from Bohare, including a Ranger bicycle, a hacksaw, and 10 smaller lights, with a total value of ₹21,410.
