After two earlier accidents on Tuesday, a third tragic incident occurred in the evening when two women were killed and six others injured when the auto-rickshaw they were traveling in collided with a stationary crane at Khairi in the New Kamptee area.
The women were on their way to Nagpur when the driver, Satish, lost control of the auto-rickshaw after speeding through the Khairi area. The vehicle collided with a stationary crane parked by the roadside, severely crushing the front portion of the rickshaw. The impact resulted in the immediate death of two women.
The deceased were identified as Nirmala Laxman Jumale (50) and Kausalyabai Kuhikar (60), both from Nagpur.
Six other passengers, including the driver, were injured in the accident. Upon receiving the alert, New Kamptee Police rushed to the scene, sending the bodies for post-mortem at a government hospital, while the injured were taken to a private medical facility.
The police have registered a case of negligent driving against the driver and have begun their investigation.
