With the conclusion of assembly elections and the subsequent halt in the movement of chartered planes and helicopters of political leaders, the recarpeting of Nagpur airport’s runway has resumed. The work recommenced on November 24, leading to the suspension of flight services between 10 am and 6 pm daily.
Earlier, flight operations were similarly halted during these hours for recarpeting. However, the work was temporarily paused to accommodate the increased air traffic from chartered planes and helicopters during the elections. This is not the first time the recarpeting schedule has been interrupted; a similar halt occurred ahead of the Lok Sabha elections due to heightened VIP movements.
The Association for Industrial Development (AID) has urged Union Minister Nitin Gadkari to ensure the runway recarpeting is completed by March 31, 2025. Following this, a meeting was held with Union Civil Aviation Minister K. Rammohan Naidu, Union Minister of State for Civil Aviation Muralidhar Mohol, and senior officials, where assurances were given that the project would be finished before the deadline.
