Dr Atul Narayan Vaidya, Director of the National Environmental Sciences has been appointed the Vice-Chancellor of Nagpur’s Laxminarayan Institute of Technical University (LITU). Dr Vaidya is due to retire in superannuation on December 4 from NEERI.
A scientist of international repute Dr Vaidya will hold the position as VC of LITU for five years or till attainments of the age of 65 years. Dr Vaidya is a Chemical Engineer from LIT (then Laxminarayan Institute of Technology affiliated to RTM Nagpur University) and Ph D from the RTMNU joined NEERI in 1990 as a junior scientist and rose to the position to of Director of NEERI.
The selection was made by a committee chaired by renowned scientist Dr Raghunath Mashelkar with members Dr Ashish Lele, Director of the National Chemical Laboratory; Dr E Suresh Kumar, Ex-VC of The English and Foreign Languages University, Hyderabad; and Chief Secretary of the Department of Higher and Technical Education Vikas Chandra Rastogi.
An alumni of Hadas High School, Nagpur brings laurels to the city Dr Vaidya became the first VC of LITU. The Institute, which was affiliated with the RTM Nagpur University got the status of the University recently.
