As December begins, winter seems to have skipped Nagpur. On Tuesday, the city recorded a minimum temperature of 21.4°C, which is eight degrees above normal. Within just 24 hours, the night temperature rose by 3°C, making warm clothing unnecessary. Cloudy skies added to the humidity, leaving residents feeling slightly uncomfortable.
The meteorological department reports that while Cyclone Fengal’s impact has subsided, a cyclonic circulation from Bangladesh has introduced moisture into central India’s atmosphere. This is expected to bring cloudy weather to Nagpur and other districts in Vidarbha over the next two to three days. Additionally, a low-pressure area over the Arabian Sea near Karnataka’s coast is further contributing to the high humidity levels.
Nagpur’s daytime temperature remained below 30°C, with a maximum of 29.4°C recorded on Tuesday—1°C below normal. Humidity levels were 76% in the morning and 70% at night. While mornings felt pleasant, the lack of a sharp temperature drop after sunset has caused mild discomfort due to lingering humidity.
Residents have voiced concerns over the prolonged humid conditions and the delayed arrival of winter. The absence of significant cool winds has further added to the discomfort during the nights.
Temperature Rises Across Vidarbha
Nighttime temperatures across most districts in Vidarbha have climbed, ranging between 19°C and 22°C, with only Chandrapur (17°C) and Gadchiroli (18.4°C) staying cooler. These readings are 4°C to 8°C above normal, reducing the region’s typical winter chill.
Easterly and southeasterly winds have brought moisture into the air, eliminating dryness and contributing to the temperature rise. Akola recorded the highest nighttime temperature at 22°C, followed by Nagpur at 21.4°C. Other notable temperatures included Bhandara (19°C), Amravati and Brahmapuri (19.8°C), and Buldhana, Gondia, and Washim (20.2°C), with Wardha at 20.8°C.
Weather experts expect the cloud cover to clear by December 7, which could lead to a drop in temperatures and the return of winter’s chill.
