The first week of December has been unusually warm in Vidarbha, including Nagpur, with minimum temperatures in most districts soaring 5 to 7 degrees above average. Persistent cloud cover across much of Maharashtra has contributed to the warmer nights, leaving residents wondering if this winter season will be less chilly than usual.
On Saturday, Nagpur recorded a minimum temperature of 20.2°C, a significant 7.2°C above the seasonal average. Brahmapuri topped the region’s temperature chart at 21.6°C, 8.4°C above average, followed by Amravati at 21°C and Chandrapur at 17.4°C. Most districts reported minimum temperatures between 18°C and 20°C. Daytime temperatures have also remained higher than average, except in Gondia, leading to the impression that winter has receded prematurely.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicts that the cloud cover will persist in Nagpur and Vidarbha for the next four to five days. However, temperatures are expected to gradually decline. By December 13, Nagpur’s minimum temperature is forecasted to dip to 13°C, bringing back the familiar winter chill.
In addition to the anticipated drop in temperatures, sporadic rain is expected in some parts of Vidarbha, including Nagpur, over the next 24 hours. The brief rainfall may further influence the return of colder weather in the region.
As Vidarbha braces for a cooler spell, residents remain hopeful that the upcoming weeks will restore the seasonal chill typically associated with December
