Indeed the weather is getting warmer in Nagpur in December!!! Epiphyllum Oxypetalum (also called Brahma Kamal in local parlance, is a look-alike of the actual Brahma kamal that grows only at high altitudes in India)
This is a fascinating flower that blooms on a plant from the succulent family. The bloom is stunning, fragrant, intricate design and blooms just once a year from dusk to dawn in the warmer months of June-July in Nagpur. Though surprisingly it bloomed in December now.
This magical flower with an intoxicating fragrance grow as large as 8-12” in diameter. (Though this bloom in the odd season did not have any fragrance)
The plant usually blooms in a few years after reaching maturity. Grows best in indirect sunlight, needs a humid environment and some fertilizers. Can be easily grown with leaf cutting.
The blooms are associated with spirituality and good fortune in many cultures. It is a rare sight to enjoy..cherish the short lived beauty of this flower.
