Chess-in-Schools Trainers Training Camp organized by Chess Association Nagpur in association with G H Raisoni Sports and Cultural Foundation commenced at Vivekanand Hall, Shraddha House, Kingway, Nagpur. The training camp is a part of “Chess in Schools” Initiative in Maharashtra by Maharashtra Chess Association.
Maharashtra Chess Association decided to organise the “Train the Trainers” Camps Across Districts as a part of its MCA-CIS initiative to take the game of chess to grass-root level by giving certification to the interested chess trainers who are imparting chess training to the school children. Nagpur has been one of the major centre of chess in Maharashtra and Chess Association Nagpur was entrusted for organisation of the camp.
Similar workshops are also being conducted in districts like Pune, Kolhapur, Solapur, Nanded, Jalgaon, Thane, Raigad, and others.
Senior National Players and Prominent Coach of Nagpur City Shri Jayant Katdare is the Chief Trainer for the Nagpur Camp while FA Shiva Iyer as the Deputy Trainer. In a brief introductory function, Chief Trainer Jayant Katdare and Deputy Trainer Shiva Iyer were welcomed by Shri Bhushan Shriwas, Secretary, Chess Association Nagpur with a floral Bouquet. Shri S.S.Soman, Working President CAN introduced the Trainers and gave a brief about the importance of Workshop.
In all 20 participants have registered to participate in the training camp/workshop. They are Akash Rewatkar, Shyam Agrawal, Sagar Sakhare, Rudraksh Borkar, Nilesh Channawar, Bharati Dhote, Amit Tembhurne, Harshal Meshram, Manthan Shende, Prathamesh Kale, Sanjyot Dange, Gunvant Thombre, Prathamesh Machave, Deep Juare, Nilesh Wasnik, Shrikant Bagde, Pujjam Bansod, Kunal Sudame, Shital Panbude and Chandrashekhar Sable.
The participants are being trained on the aspect of methodic teaching to the kids as per the standard course contents approved by MCA-CIS Program Commission. The workshop is a one-day program which includes comprehensive training required to become a chess trainer. The sessions will focus on technical skills in chess, the “Chess in Schools” curriculum, and the application of modern technology like the internet and websites in chess training.
The “Chess in Schools” initiative, conceptualized by Indian Chess Federation’s head coach and Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna awardee Grandmaster Abhijit Kunte.
After the training, participants will undergo an examination. Those who pass will receive the CIS-Certified School Trainer Degree and Certificate from the Maharashtra Chess Association. Starting from the upcoming academic year, these certified trainers will provide chess training to students in schools under the “Chess in Schools” initiative.
The results of the examination shall be announced by the Maharashtra Chess Association and the Certificates shall be awarded to the qualified trainers in due course.
