112th Convocation of RTMNU
Standardization of education has been prominently responsible for the deterioration of the quality of education, which the National Education Policy wants to remove. Every child has a different learning need, style, and aptitude, and ‘one size fits all’ cannot serve the purpose. It is not important what we want to teach but it matters what a learner wants to learn. The focus under NEP 2020 is on learning and not teaching. This was categorically stated by the Governor of Maharashtra and Chancellor of universities in Maharashtra C P Radhakrishnan during the 112th Convocation of Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University on Monday.
Mere theoretical knowledge and a degree do not make one employable. NEP places adequate attention to skill development for ensuring employability and developing entrepreneurship attitudes as well. He said. The conventional graduate programmes will have a component of skill development courses. The administrators at different levels are working on solutions to remove the constraints of non-availability of infrastructure and human resources at higher education institutions.
One of the important aspects of the education policy is to provide opportunities for multidisciplinary education. The students will get the opportunity to study subjects of other disciplines. The teachers need to play a vital role as mentors, counselors, and facilitators. Multidisciplinary education needs a complete reorientation of mindset of parents, the Chancellor said. Material aspirations are not unreasonable but they need to be guided by the conscious principles of sustainable development of the nation and the society, he added.
Officiating Vice-Chancellor Dr Prashant Bokare in his welcome address informed about the achievements of the university. Officiating Pro-VC Dr Rajendra Kakde, Registrar Dr Raju Hiwase, Drirector Board of Examinations Dr Sanjay Kavishwar, and members of the University’s Management Council were present on the dais.
