The Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University had decided to open four student facilitation centres in Bhandara, Gondi, Wardha and Nagpur. The Officiating Vice-Chancellor Dr Prashant Bokare has directed the authorities concerned to start these centres by January 10, 2025.
The students from these districts under the University’s jurisdiction had to travel to Nagpur to procure documents or complete small procedures related to their studies. Those studying in remote places face difficulties in travelling to Nagpur, which also requires time and money.
The demand for such centres has been pending since 2017 and was approved by the Maharashtra Cabinet on February 16, 2022. However, the proposal remained neglected despite continuous follow-up by Senate member Dinesh Sheram.
The issue was again raised during the Senate meeting this week. Dr Bokare issued orders to start the centres in all the districts by January 10. The university will provide the funds for the centres.
The demand to start sub-centres at all the district centres was also pending. Dr Bokare said that starting sub-centres may not be immediately possible, but the student facility centres will be started.
