Centre Point School, Wardhaman Nagar, hosted its much-anticipated biennial concert on 20th December, 2024, in a dazzling display of grandeur and magnificence. Themed Timeless Vibes, the event was a true spectacle that transported the audience through a captivating journey of music, dance, and theatrical brilliance. With stunning performances, vibrant choreography, and melodious tunes, the evening came alive as a harmonious blend of creativity and artistry. The breathtaking stagecraft, elaborate costumes, and seamless transitions added to the splendour, making it a night of unparalleled excellence. The first segment of the evening started with the TORRINS performance. This is where the school band played foot tapping music and also gave tribute to the tabla maestro Late Mr. Zakir Hussain.
The English segment of the concert was a mesmerizing journey where GOD asks MANKIND to explain his actions and decisions. This was shown through iconic eras of history, brought to life with powerful portrayals of three legendary women—Queen Cleopatra of Egypt, Joan of Arc, the patron saint of France, and Queen Elizabeth I. The riveting performances and exceptional dialogue delivery by the students captivated the audience, earning thunderous applause. The dedication of the performers shone through every word and gesture. Enhancing the impact were the breathtaking stage sets, which transformed the venue into a visual timeline of history. From Cleopatra’s majestic Egyptian throne to the solemn battlefields of Joan of Arc and the regal Tudor court of Queen Elizabeth I, each scene was seamlessly supported by LED visuals that transported viewers to another time. The intricately designed costumes added authenticity and grandeur, making the performances both visually stunning and historically immersive.
The Hindi segment of the concert was a nostalgic treat for our audiences. It took the audience on a compelling journey across three eras, examining humanity’s relationship with technology through carefully crafted performances that were both entertaining and thought-provoking. The technical team demonstrated remarkable skill in programming and timing the visual transitions, ensuring they complemented rather than overshadowed the performances.
The first act transported us to the golden age of television, centered around a meticulously recreated living room from the 1980s. The attention to period detail was impressive – from the vintage furniture to the carefully sourced props like old magazines, transistor radios, and a perfectly preserved television set from the era. The students’ costumes were remarkably authentic, featuring bell-bottoms, colorful prints, and classic Indian attire that perfectly captured the fashion of the time.
The magnetic pull of programs like Chitrahaar, where families would gather religiously around their television sets for their weekly dose of film songs and entertainment. The young actors showed surprising maturity in their portrayal of family dynamics from an era they never experienced firsthand.
The second act jolted us into the present day with a dynamic exploration of our social media-dominated world. The LED screens came alive with familiar social media interfaces, while the students’ costumes reflected contemporary fashion trends. The performers expertly wielded smartphones and tablets as props, incorporating them naturally into their choreography. What stood out was the students’ honest and self-aware portrayal of their own generation’s relationship with technology.
The final act showcased the production team’s creativity in costume design, with performers wearing innovative outfits that suggested a futuristic aesthetic without falling into sci-fi clichés. The LED screens displayed cutting-edge graphics of AI interfaces and futuristic cityscapes, while clever use of lighting created an appropriately otherworldly atmosphere.
The student performers handled the complex themes with remarkable sophistication, especially in scenes depicting human-AI interaction. Their movements alternated between mechanical precision and fluid human motion, effectively conveying the blending of organic and artificial intelligence.
The end showcased that GOD was happy with MANKIND and felt proud of HIS creations. These hopeful words left the audiences satisfied and content. The instant feedback was that the special effects, costumes, props, acting and speaking skills gave the students the much needed exposure in this arena. The students ended up being more confident and self-assured after the entire event.
Mrs. Shilpee Ganguly, the Director Principal of CENTRE POINT GROUP OF SCHOOLS congratulated Mrs. Kanchan Ukey (Principal of CPS WN) and her group of dedicated teachers for putting up this fantastic show.
