Nagpur: Commissioner of Police Dr. Ravinder Kumar Singal has issued an order prohibiting transgenders and similar groups from harassing individuals by barging into private functions or surrounding them at traffic junctions in the city. The order, effective from December 28, 2024, to February 25, 2025, warns of legal action under multiple provisions of the law for violations.
Dr. Singal stated that reports had been received about such groups entering functions like weddings, funerals, and birthdays uninvited, threatening people, and engaging in obscene behavior to demand money. Similar incidents were reported at traffic junctions, where individuals were allegedly harassed for monetary extortion.
“Such behavior amounts to extortion and creates a public nuisance,” the order read. Violators will face action under Sections 223, 189(2), 189(4), 191(2), 194(1), 270, 308(2), 308(3), 351(1), 352, and 351(2)(3) of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS) and Sections 67, 68, 111, and 112 of the Maharashtra Police Act.
Citizens with objections to the order can submit their concerns via email at cp.nagpur@mahapolice.gov.in or deliver them in person at Police Bhavan, Civil Lines.
