In a significant move to combat the hazards of illegal nylon manja, the Nagpur Zone 5 police destroyed seized nylon manja worth ₹18 lakh as part of the ongoing “Say No to Nylon Manja” campaign. The operation was conducted under the guidance of Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Zone 5, Niketan Kadam.
The destruction took place on January 13, 2025, at 4 PM at the Indora Ground near Jaripatka Police Station. The event was attended by DCP Niketan Kadam, the in-charges of Zone 5 police stations, and members of the media.
The campaign aims to raise awareness about the dangers of nylon manja, which has been responsible for numerous injuries and fatalities, particularly during kite-flying festivals like Makar Sankranti. The police have been actively cracking down on the sale and use of the banned material through a series of raids across the city.
Citizens have been urged to refrain from using or purchasing nylon manja and to support efforts to eradicate its use entirely, ensuring a safe and joyous celebration of Makar Sankranti.
