Dr. Hemant Sharad Pande has assumed charge as Director (Personnel) of Western Coalfields Limited (WCL), a PSU under ministry of coal, on 27.01.2025. On assumption of the charge, Dr Pande met CMD WCL Shri J. P. Dwivedi, who congratulated him and wished him the best for his future endeavours. WCL Directors & CVO too wished him on the occasion.
Prior to assuming charge as Director (Personnel), Dr. Hemant Sharad Pande was serving as Area General Manager of Raigarh Area of South Eastern Coalfields Limited (SECL), a subsidiary company of Coal India Limited. Dr. Pande was recommended for the post of Director (Personnel) of WCL by the PESB selection panel from the pool of 10 (Ten) candidates.
Dr. Hemant Sharad Pande holds a Bachelor of Engineering in Mining from Visvesvaraya National Institute of Technology, Nagpur. He holds a post graduate degree of Master of Business Administration and Master of Technology in mining. He is Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Management. He has further honed his managerial and leadership skills through Advanced Global Techno Management training in ESCP, a top Business School in Europe, and visited countries like France, Germany, Switzerland, Belgium and Netherlands. He has participated as a member of Indian delegation in various business meeting in the Prospectors and Developers Association (PDAC) in Toronto, Canada.

He began his career in the August 1989 as Junior Executive Trainee with Western Coalfields Limited (WCL). During his 19 years tenure at WCL, Dr. Pande served in various prestigious projects in different capacities. In this period, he gained expertise in handling of various mining technologies, land acquisition and industrial relations issues.
He was posted in South Eastern Coalfields Limited since September 2008, where he has served in various capacities in Chirimiri, Hasdeo, Gevra, Johilla and Raigarh Area. In Gevra Area, as GM, Project, commissioning SILO despatch in pit crushing system and implementation of IT initiatives with innovative approach to enhance the transparency and efficiency of the coal despatch system are amongst his exemplary works.
Building on his sincere approach and commitments he assumed higher responsibility of heading Johilla and Raigarh Areas of SECL. In Raigarh, he was instrumental in commissioning of two SILOS of 6MTY and 10MTY and two wharf wall siding for environment friendly coal despatch. His notable work in Johila area include establishment of a Solar unit and execution of various CSR activities for needy. In 2022, he received the Best General Manager Award from Coal India Limited.
With a distinguished career spanning 35 Years across various coal subsidiaries of CIL, Dr Hemant Sharad Pande’s wealth of experience in technical knowhow, stakeholders expectations, employee engagement, contractual work intricacies, industrial relations and penchant desire for learning and development, is poised to hugely benefit not only Western Coalfields Limited but also the coal industry as a whole.
