Nagpur’s Gandhisagar Lake project moves forward with new PMC tender for multipurpose hall redevelopment.
The Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) has issued a second call for proposals to appoint a project management consultant for the redevelopment of a multipurpose hall near Gandhisagar Lake, part of Phase II of its ongoing project. The first tender failed as bidders didn’t meet the minimum qualification criteria, so the tender formula has been revised to attract more participants.
Phase I of the project, which started in 2021 with a ₹38 crore budget, focused on strengthening the lake’s embankments and retaining walls, alongside beautification efforts. Despite weather-related delays, 90% of the work is expected to be completed by early 2025. A ₹35 crore state government investment in December 2024 further transformed the lake and the nearby Bhauji Pagey garden, which now features lush greenery, paved walkways, and floral displays, creating a cultural and recreational hub for the city.
Phase II will modernize and expand the multipurpose hall to meet the growing needs of Nagpur. With an estimated cost of ₹25 crore, the selected consultant will manage the project from design to execution, ensuring quality construction within 12 months.
This project plays a vital role in Nagpur’s urban development, combining ecological restoration with modern infrastructure. Upon completion, the upgraded hall will enhance the lake’s role as a vibrant center for community and cultural activities.
