The Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) has intensified its recovery drive against defaulters in the Nagpur division. Power supply to over 9,000 consumers has already been disconnected this month for failing to clear pending electricity bills, according to Chief Engineer Dilip Dodke.

The Nagpur division, covering Nagpur and Wardha districts, has around 18.82 lakh power consumers across residential, commercial, and industrial categories. Out of these, only 11.38 lakh consumers have paid their electricity bills this month, leaving more than 7 lakh consumers with outstanding dues.
Thousands Face Disconnection
From January 1 to January 28, power supply was disconnected for 9,671 defaulters. This included 6,319 consumers in Nagpur city, 1,436 in Nagpur rural, and 1,416 in Wardha district.
Partial Restoration After Payments
Following disconnections, 2,888 consumers cleared their dues along with reconnection charges, enabling the restoration of their power supply. These included 1,934 consumers in Nagpur city, 483 in Nagpur rural, and 471 in Wardha district.
Recovery Drive to Continue
The crackdown on defaulters will continue, with MSEDCL forming special teams comprising technical, accounting, and human resource personnel for disconnection operations. Power reconnections will only be made after full payment of dues along with reconnection charges. Legal action is also being taken against consumers who illegally reconnect their power supply after disconnection.
Online Payment Options Available
To avoid disconnection and inconvenience, MSEDCL has urged consumers to promptly pay their bills. Payments can be made at local billing centers or online through MSEDCL’s website www.mahadiscom.in and mobile app.
Consumers making online payments can avail of a 0.25% discount on bills up to ₹500 and a 1% prompt payment discount. Except for credit cards, all other payment methods are free of charge. MSEDCL has appealed to consumers to clear their dues on time to avoid power disconnections and legal consequences.
