The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) has issued a notification, GSR 879 (E), amending the rules for Bharat Series (BH-Series) vehicle registration. The changes aim to expand the scheme and improve accessibility for vehicle owners.
Key Amendments:
- Conversion of Regular Vehicles: Vehicles with standard registration can now be converted to BH-Series by paying the required tax.
- Ownership Transfer: BH-Series vehicles can now be sold to both eligible and ineligible buyers.
- Simplified Application Process: Proposed amendments to Rule 48 will allow applicants to apply for BH-Series registration from home or office.
- Stricter Verification: Private-sector employees must submit a working certificate to prevent misuse. Government employees can now apply using a service certificate in addition to their official ID card.
What is the BH Series?
Introduced on August 26, 2021, and effective from September 15, 2021, the BH-Series exempts vehicle owners from re-registration when relocating to another state. Initially voluntary, it was designed for government and private-sector employees working in four or more states/UTs.
These amendments are expected to streamline the process and enhance ease of ownership transfer for BH-Series vehicles.
