The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) apprehended Premanand Dadarao Katre, Assistant Police Inspector of Koradi Police Station, on February 5, for accepting a Rs 2 lakh bribe. The officer allegedly demanded the amount to settle a complaint regarding a fraudulent sale deed involving agricultural land in Mouza Kawtha, Kamthi Taluka.
A 42-year-old complainant from Nagpur had approached the Koradi Police Station seeking action against a land fraud case. However, instead of investigating the matter, Katre reportedly demanded Rs 2 lakh for a settlement. The complainant reported the bribe demand to the ACB on February 4, leading to a trap operation the following day.
Katre was caught red-handed at Koradi Police Station while accepting the bribe in the presence of witnesses. The entire amount was seized on the spot. An additional Rs 300 was recovered from the officer during a personal search. The ACB has also seized his mobile phone for further investigation.
Under the guidance of Superintendent Dr. Digambar Pradhan and Additional SP Sanjay Purandare, the operation was led by Police Inspector Preeti Shende. A case has been registered against Katre under relevant sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act. Further investigations are underway.
